Mosquitoes are a bothersome outdoor pest, especially early in the day and late at night. In addition to causing pain and irritation, mosquito bites can spread viruses that cause encephalitis and the West Nile Virus malaria, and yellow fever. 

In addition to the health problems linked to mosquito bites, people may avoid outdoor activities when mosquito populations are high due to irritation from mosquitoes, which can diminish their enjoyment of being outside.


The nectar attracts mosquitoes in plants; however, there are some flowering plants that also repel them.

1. Chrysanthemum




The chemical "pyrethrum," which is naturally present in chrysanthemum blossoms, kills ticks and other insects like fleas and mosquitoes by attacking their nervous systems.

Pyrethrum is a natural pesticide made from the dried flower heads of Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium and Chrysanthemum coccineum. Pyrethrins are the insecticides that are present in plant flowers.

2. Lemongrass



Both types of lemongrass, are used in the preparation of anti-mosquito repellents because they contain ingredients like geraniol and citronellol, which deter mosquitoes. Apply the oil to your skin after squeezing it from the crushed leaves.


3. Citronella & Lemon Balm

Lemon Balm and Citronella grass have a strong scent that confuses mosquitoes. But lemon balm contains more oil than citronella.  You can apply the crushed leaf residue to your skin to deter mosquitoes.

 

4. Marigold

5. Floss Flower



A wild and poisonous plant called floss (Ageratum houstonia) develops in areas where it not only wards off insects but also stunts the growth of other plants.

 6. Catnip



Nepetalactone, a chemical component found in catnip, repels mosquitoes 10 times more effectively than DEET.

Use a jar filled with olive oil and finely chopped catnip leaves as a mosquito repellent spray by shaking the mixture thoroughly and storing it in a dark, cool location for about six weeks.


7. Rosemary



Because of its potent aroma, rosemary is used not only in cooking but also to get rid of bothersome insects like mosquitoes. Fragrant rosemary leaves and flowers are particularly effective at doing this.

Your home will be mosquito-free if you burn dried rosemary in your yard.


8. Lemon Verbena



Lemon verbena's pointed leaves give out a citrus aroma when crushed, which is sufficient to deter mosquitoes and other insects.

To repel mosquitoes, crush and rub lemon verbena leaves on your hands, neck, and other exposed places.

 9. Lavender

10. Citronella Geraniums

The foliage of citronella geraniums emits a pleasant aroma that repels flies and mosquitoes.

Its leaves can be crumpled, and its paste and oil can be applied to various body parts.


 11.   Garlic



The most natural method of getting rid of mosquitoes is by using garlic. After steeping for a day in carrier oil with a few crushed garlic cloves, remove them and combine the oil with a cup of water and a few drops of lemon juice. use it as a spray to ward off mosquitoes.

12. Lantana



According to a study on NCBI, the strong scent of lantana blooms deters insects. Growing it in houses will also attract butterflies while removing mosquitoes from the area.

Burn the leaves of Lantana cameras to help prevent female anopheles mosquitoes, which transmit malaria.


13. Neem Tree



Neem has been used for centuries in the Indian subcontinent to repel mosquitoes. Planting a large neem tree in the yard can also assist to keep mosquitoes away from the area.

Under three-year-olds should not have the oil of lemon eucalyptus applied to them, and it should be avoided at all costs because it can cause major eye irritation.
